Some more Sci-Fi Ship Progress

Well this is the process that lead to my final ship design.

Single Layered Forest Thingy

Well I was fed up with trying to paint ships and thought I'd give painting on a single layer a go. I do quite like the way it looks, even if it really isn't very realistic.

Sci-Fi Ship - Research and First Crappy Sketches

Halloween Re-Take Progress

Well after fighting with a pretty much blank canvas for quite a while now, I have finally started to make some progress on this older assignment. I've taken the cel shading route on this one and quite like the overall effect.

Sculptris Practice

Well here are two sculpures I threw together when I was playing around with sculptris, I quite liked them and thought I mayas well share them.

Dragon Sculpting

Well we were set the task to sculpt a dragon in Scluptris. this was going well until I began to finish the detail of the dragons head. Unfortunately my computer couldn't handle the amount of poly's that made up my sculpture and it pretty much became unusable so here is what I did manage to get done.

Santa Final

Well this is my final piece for the Santa project, some how found myself wandering away from my research and pretty much did this from a rough idea in my head. Unfortunately there are no sketches for any of this as I sort of jumped in at the deep end and just sort of went with it and I am very happy with the final result.

I did start with a 3D model similar to the the plane crash, however this was just a place holder to get the perspective. I went on to create vanishing points from the model and create some line work for the house to be painted on to.

Below are my development steps throughout what was a very very long painting process.

Below is my final piece and entry for the course Christmas card competition.

Santa Mood Board

Another week another project. This time round we have to create some sort of Santa design. Below is my mood board with a load of pictures of santa that I really like. I'm not entirely sure what style or incarnation of santa I will go for but hopefully these images will help to give me some sort of inspiration.

Plane Crash Final

After what seems to have been a very long two weeks I have finally finished the painting. I have been pretty terrible at keeping my blog updated with progressive stages throughout the development of the painting and so all of the stages of development are shown in order below beginning with the position of the 3D model that I used to base the position of my plane on.

After finishing the piece above I attempted to edit the lighting to create the effect that the plane crash happened at night. The main light source is coming from the fire of the planes engine.

Plane Crash Research

So this time round we have been set a 2 week assignment, in which to create a digital painting of a plane crash. However the specification is a little bit more specific than that, we are required to paint it so that the plane is an American Airlines Boeing 747 that has crashed into the lower east side of New York and somewhere in the scene is a man wearing a t-shirt and jeans in his late 30's with dark hair as a survivor of the crash.

Below is my collection of reference images.

Attempt at Final Halloween Painting

Basically I have given up on this after several hours of trying different styles, designs, positions and completely different creatures I have stopped. I am too frustrated to carry on with this so I am simply going to upload my final sketch. Pretty much everything about it is wrong but here you go, I tried but failed.

Halloween Sketches

Well they may not be the best sketches but I personally quite liked the overall sort of style. I found myself getting overly obsessed with heads of creatures and not a lot on the whole creature. I do quite like the sketches and I think from these I have a good base to start from for my final piece.

Halloween Mood Board

Yes I know it is a little late, but I completely forgot to upload this, thought I already had oops.
A lot of the images on here are from silent hill and I think this is the sort of style I want to go for. Some sort of twisted demonic freaky looking creature :D

Tree Final and Development

After much tribulation and and work the images below are  my final trees with character. The reason for there being two versions is down to the fact that I changed my mind on my final design half way through and then changed it back again.

Originally I was going for the idea that a dying tree was stretching out into the sunlight and all of the parts of the tree in the light are blossoming, but the sections of the tree out of the light remain dead. I then changed this as time went on as I was struggling to create a good enough background for the concept. After a while I eventually created the landscape scene, with a more picturesque feeling. And then after that I decided to have another go at my original idea and eventually came out with a relatively good piece. I am happy with both of these and feel they are my best pieces to date.

Also included are some images throughout the development and painting of my final tree scenes.
