Semester 2 Final Portfolio

I am coming to the very end of the final semester of my first year at university. Our tutor has required that we hand in a few pieces that we have completed during the course. Some of them I added more too so they looked more like I had originally hoped, some are brand new as I missed the original assignment and some have been untouched.

Bug / Slug Guy

A new piece that I missed at the very beginning of this semester. Took a few hours to finish. We were given a line drawing and told to colour the image and shade it well enough so that the drawing held its form without the line work. I am happy with the final result and colour choice.

Character Torso / Daarken Tutorial

We were given a series of video tutorials to watch as well as a specific brush set. We were told to either follow the video exactly or to use the same techniques to create our own character. I chose to create a new character using the same painting techniques as shown in the video. I am fairly happy with the final outcome but I still feel that it is missing something, but I really don't know what. This was something that I started at a much earlier date but only finished recently.

Bark Creature

A creature inspired by tree bark, that was our objective. This piece was finished some time ago and it is by far the one piece that I am most happy with. However in the previous version it was set on a white background. So I went back and created a new background and  spent a little time playing around with the lighting so that it fitted in with the image much better.

Fishing Lizard

Not much has changed with this piece since I originally finished it. However I have now removed the original artists line work and cleaned up a few of the edges so that the form is held much better by itself without the original lining. I still feel more detail could be added to this piece but I found myself struggling to add detail to the standard I wanted.

Horror Bunny

This was a piece that has not been touched since the original finish. this is due to the fact that our tutor only gave us two hours in which to complete it and then we were to leave it in its current form from the on. During this piece I found myself paying much too much attention to the face detail, hence why the body has not been completed.

Space Marine

Yet again our tutor gave us a two hour session in which to complete a painting of a space marine themed character. This one was much easier than the bunny as it started out as just line work and I built the colour and shading on top of it. I am very happy with this final result and am pleased with the cell shading styled effect that I created with this character.
