Santa Final

Well this is my final piece for the Santa project, some how found myself wandering away from my research and pretty much did this from a rough idea in my head. Unfortunately there are no sketches for any of this as I sort of jumped in at the deep end and just sort of went with it and I am very happy with the final result.

I did start with a 3D model similar to the the plane crash, however this was just a place holder to get the perspective. I went on to create vanishing points from the model and create some line work for the house to be painted on to.

Below are my development steps throughout what was a very very long painting process.

Below is my final piece and entry for the course Christmas card competition.

Santa Mood Board

Another week another project. This time round we have to create some sort of Santa design. Below is my mood board with a load of pictures of santa that I really like. I'm not entirely sure what style or incarnation of santa I will go for but hopefully these images will help to give me some sort of inspiration.

Plane Crash Final

After what seems to have been a very long two weeks I have finally finished the painting. I have been pretty terrible at keeping my blog updated with progressive stages throughout the development of the painting and so all of the stages of development are shown in order below beginning with the position of the 3D model that I used to base the position of my plane on.

After finishing the piece above I attempted to edit the lighting to create the effect that the plane crash happened at night. The main light source is coming from the fire of the planes engine.

Plane Crash Research

So this time round we have been set a 2 week assignment, in which to create a digital painting of a plane crash. However the specification is a little bit more specific than that, we are required to paint it so that the plane is an American Airlines Boeing 747 that has crashed into the lower east side of New York and somewhere in the scene is a man wearing a t-shirt and jeans in his late 30's with dark hair as a survivor of the crash.

Below is my collection of reference images.
